The American Translators Association (abbreviated as "ATA") is the main national translator association in the United States. It is affiliated with the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs, which is the main international translator association.
The ATA has finally established itself on the World Wide Web. Its URL is http://www.atanet.org. Its e-mail address is: ata@atanet.org.
The ATA has a monthly publication called the ATA Chronicle which is provided to members. It used to offer for sale the Translation Services Directory, a list of qualified members who have passed its accreditation examinations. However, this is now availabe free on the web and is known as the Online Directory of Translation and Interpreting Services.
The address of the American Translators Association is as follows:
225 Reinekers Lane, Suite 590 Alexandria, VA 22314 telephone +1 (703) 683-6100 fax +1 (703) 683-6122
There are also many regional translator associations. In Northern California the main translator association is called the Northern California Translators Assocation, abbreviated as NCTA. See the ATA's website for a fairly complete list of regional translator associations.
